OUR FABRICS

THE COTTON JOURNEY

RAW COTTON IS GROWN AND HARVESTED IN NUMEROUS LOCATIONS AROUND THE WORLD, THE COTTON FIBRES ONCE PICKED KNOWN AS STABLES ARE CLEANED, CARDED (FIBRES ALIGNED) AND SPUN INTO YARNS. ONCE PROCESSED INTO YARNS THEY ARE DYED FOR USE IN THE WEAVING OPERATION.

THE WEAVING PROCESS USES TWO SETS OF YARNS CALLED THE WARP, THE VERTICAL YARN AND THE WEFT, THE HORIZONTAL YARN. EACH YARN IS WEAVED TOGETHER TO FORM THE WOVEN FABRIC USED IN OUR SHIRTS. THE WEAVING PROCESS IS PRODUCED ON MACHINES CALLED LOOMS AND ALTHOUGH TECHNOLOGY HAS CHANGED OVER THE CENTURIES THE FUNDAMENTAL PROCESS HAS REMAINED THE SAME. THE WOVEN FABRIC IS OFTEN TREATED TO GIVE A DISTINCTIVE FINISH BEFORE BEING READY TO BE CUT AND TAILORED INTO GARMENTS.

WHITELEY & PAYNE SHIRT FABRICS

WE ONLY USE TWO-FOLD FABRICS, MEANING THAT TWO VERY FINELY SPUN YARNS HAVE BEEN TWISTED TOGETHER TO CREATE A TWO-FOLD YARN. THIS MAKES OUR COTTONS MUCH STRONGER AND SMOOTHER, WITH AN UNSURPASSED LUSTRE.

WE SOURCE OUR FABRICS FROM THE ALBINI GROUP IN ITALY, ONE OF THE FINEST MILLS IN THE WORLD. THEIR STATE OF THE ART WEAVING OPERATION PRODUCES ONLY FABRIC OF THE HIGHEST STANDARDS AND IMPECCABLE QUALITY.

OUR LUXURIOUS RANGE OF BOTH READY TO WEAR  AND MADE TO MEASURE SHIRTS ARE PRODUCED FROM THEIR OLD ENGLISH HERITAGE THOMAS MASON BRAND.

THIS BRAND DATES BACK TO 1796 WHEN THOMAS MASON ESTABLISHED ONE OF THE FIRST COTTON FABRIC FACTORIES FOR SHIRTS IN THE WORLD.

GIZA 87 COTTON FABRICS

WE USE THOMAS MASON GIZA 87 COTTON FABRICS FOR OUR W&P SHIRTS. GIZA 87 IS AVAILABLE IN TWO PLY 100s, 120s & 140s.

GIZA 87 FABRICS ARE MADE FROM COTTON CULTIVATED IN ALBINI'S COTTON FIELDS ALONG THE FERTILE NILE DELTA IN EGYPT.

THESE COTTONS ARE AMONGST THE VERY BEST IN THE WORLD WHOSE FIBRES HAVE EXCEPTIONALLY LONG STAPLE LENGTHS.

THIS RESULTS IN A BRILLIANCE OF COLOUR THAT GUARANTEES A WONDERFUL AND UNRIVALLED LUMINOSITY AND BRIGHTNESS.

THE FABRICS ARE THEN MANUFACTURED USING SOPHISTICATED TECHNOLOGIES AND MACHINERY FOR ELIMINATING IMPURITIES, WEAVING AND FINISHING. THE GIZA 87 ST.JAMES FABRIC IS A TWO PLY 100s WHICH MEANS TWO YARNS HAVE BEEN WEAVED INTO ONE AND 100M YARN OF 100S CLOTH WEIGHS ONE GRAMME.

THE OUTCOME IS A FABRIC OF LUXURIOUS FEEL, SOFTNESS AND LUSTRE THAT HOLDS ITS BRIGHTNESS AND FURTHER SOFTENS FOLLOWING NUMEROUS WASHES.

SIVERLINE COTTON FABRICS

WE ALSO USE THOMAS MASON SILVER LINE COTTON FABRICS FOR OUR W&P SHIRTS. THE SILVER LINE COLLECTIONS ARE AVAILABLE IN TWO PLY 100s & 120s.

THE COMBINATION OF A SPECIAL TWIST GIVEN TO THE FINE YARNS PLUS THE TRADITIONAL PURE FINISHING METHOD, CONFER A SPECIAL LUSTRE AND SOFTNESS. THESE CHARACTERISTICS MAKE SILVER LINE FABRICS UNIQUE IN THEIR CLASS.

COTTON WEAVE TYPE - POPLIN

WE LOVE USING POPLIN FABRIC FOR OUR W&P SHIRTS AS IT IS EASY TO IRON AND DOES NOT WRINKLE EASILY.

POPLIN IS A PLAIN WEAVE WITH A SMOOTH TEXTURE AS A RESULT OF A FINE YARN RUNNING ONE WAY WITH A THICKER ONE INTERWEAVING IT.

THE TERM POPLIN ORIGINATES FROM PAPELINO, A FABRIC MADE IN AVIGNON, FRANCE IN THE 15TH CENTURY AND NAMED FOR THE POPE'S RESIDENCE.

COTTON WEAVE TYPE - OXFORD

WE LOVE OXFORD COTTON FABRIC WITH ITS A BASKET WEAVE STRUCTURE AND LUSTROUS ASPECT.

WE USE THE ROYAL OXFORD DUE TO ITS FINE YARN. ITS VERSATILITY ALLOWS  W&P SHIRTS TO  BE PAIRED WITH EITHER BUSINESS OR SMART CASUAL DRESS CODES.

COTTON WEAVE TYPE - TWILL

BECAUSE OF its STRUCTURE, TWILL DRAPE WELL AND IS A PERFECT MATERIAL FOR OUR W&P SHIRTS.

IT IS A WEAVE THAT CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY ITS DIAGONAL LINES. THIS IS ACHIEVED BY PASSING THE WEFT THREAD OVER ONE OR MORE WARP THREADS AND THEN UNDER TWO OR MORE WARP THREADS.

THERE IS A 'STEP' OR OFFSET BETWEEN ROWS TO CREATE THE CHARACTERISTIC DIAGONAL PATTERN.

W&P CITY CLASSIC - TWO PLY 100s

W&P SHIRTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE IN THREE RANGES; CITY CLASSIC, CITY FLYER AND TRAVELLER. EACH REFLECTS A DIFFERENT FINENESS OF THE COTTON YARN.

W&P CITY CLASSIC SHIRTS ARE MADE FROM BEAUTIFUL TWO PLY 100s COTTONS. TWO PLY IS MADE OF TWO LENGTHS OF COTTON YARN INTERWINED TO LOOK SUPERIOR AND ADD DENSITY AND LUSHNESS.

100s REFERS TO THE THICKNESS OF THE YARN, A 100M YARN OF A 100s CLOTH WEIGHS ONE GRAMME.

W&P CITY FLYER - TWO PLY 120s

W&P CITY FLYER SHIRTS ARE MADE FROM TWO PLY 120s COTTONS.

120s ARE EVEN FINER IN WEIGHT THAN 100s. THEY ARE TRULY FANTASTIC AND FEEL VERY SOFT AND LUXURIOUS.

W&P TRAVELLER - TWO PLY 100s

W&P TRAVELLER SHIRTS ARE MADE FROM TWO PLY 100s COTTON FABRICS FROM THE THOMAS MASON JOURNEY RANGE. PURE EGYPTIAN COTTON FABRICS WITH A SPECIAL FINISHING THAT IS RESISTANT TO CREASING AND CRUMPLING. JOURNEY FABRICS HAVE BEEN TESTED TO BEYOND GRADE 3 AATCC AND PROVIDE A SHARP AND CRISP SHIRT THAT REQUIRES MINIMAL IRONING.

OUR TRAVELLER SHIRTS ARE THEREFORE PERFECT FOR THE GENTLEMEN WHO TRAVELS EXTENSIVELY AND WANTS TO LOOK GREAT AT THE END AS WELL AS START OF THE DAY.

W&P SARTORIAL - TWO PLY 140s

W&P SARTORIAL SHIRTS WILL BE LAUNCHED LATER IN 2015.

OUR SARTORIAL RANGE WILL BE MADE FROM TWO PLY 140s COTTONS. THE FINE NESS AND QUALITY OF 140s IS OUTSTANDING AND WE ARE VERY EXCITED AT THE PROSPECT OF ADDING THIS RANGE TO OUR COLLECTION.

W&P TIE FABRICS

OUR PASSION FOR EXCELLENCE AND QUALITY HAS ENSURED THAT W&P TIES ARE MADE FROM THE FINEST SILK, WOVEN IN ENGLAND BY VANNERS, ONE OF THE BEST SILK MILLS IN THE WORLD. VANNERS HAS BEEN WEAVING SILK SINCE 1740.

USING ONLY THE FINEST 7PLY ‘PURE DYE’ MULBERRY SILK AND ‘350 END’ WARPS  RESULTS IN UNSURPASSED QUALITY, LUXURIOUS FEEL AND INTRICATE DETAILING.

PURE DYE’ MEANS THAT NO ARTIFICIAL ADDITIVES HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE WARP OR WEFT YARN TO WEIGHT THE FABRIC.

THESE WOVEN SILKS ARE THEN TURNED INTO OUR BEAUTIFUL HAND MADE W&P TIES IN ENGLAND USING TRADITIONAL TIE MAKING TECHNIQUES.
